SaveLast updated: March 1, 2026
Kings Island in Mason, Ohio (near Cincinnati) is one of the premier theme parks in the Midwest. Home to world-class coasters like Orion, Banshee, and Mystic Timbers, Kings Island offers a strong mix of thrill rides and family attractions. The park's Planet Snoopy kids' area is consistently rated one of the best children's areas at any theme park in the country. Kings Island is a Cedar Fair park, sharing management and safety practices with Cedar Point — making it a great option for families who want coaster thrills with better options for younger riders.
How Kings Island Measures Height
Kings Island uses measuring sticks at ride entrances. Guests may wear shoes but must remove hats. The park does not issue wristbands — measurement happens at each ride. Kings Island is part of the Cedar Fair chain and uses the same measurement standards as Cedar Point and other Cedar Fair parks. Ride operators make the final call on height eligibility.

Key Height Thresholds at Kings Island

The park has a good spread of height thresholds — Planet Snoopy rides start at 36 inches, family coasters open at 40–46 inches, and the major coasters require 48–54 inches. The 48-inch mark is the key threshold for accessing most of Kings Island's signature coasters. The park is more family-balanced than Cedar Point, with stronger options for younger guests.
Kings Island offers a Rider Swap program at rides with height requirements. Planet Snoopy is one of the best kids' areas in the country — if your child does not meet height requirements for the bigger coasters, they can spend hours in Planet Snoopy enjoying age-appropriate rides with their own mild coasters and flat rides.
